Creative Portrait Sessions

Film soup. Multiple exposures. Color washes. Light leaks.

I’m bringing my favorite experimental film techniques I use in my fine art photography to you in creative film portrait sessions.

If you’re seeking images that are quirky, colorful and definitely unconventional, let’s talk! I’m now booking sessions for individuals and couples in Atlanta, GA.

Why book a creative film portrait session with me?

Because these are anything-but-ordinary photos—they are works of art! I love creating images that are unexpected, surprising and one-of-a-kind, and want to bring that same ethos to capturing unique portraits of you. Whether it’s for fun, for business or celebration, your photos will be completely original and shot on my favorite medium, film!

What’s included in a session?

We’ll start with a quick welcome chat to discuss your vision, location ideas, preferences and any questions you may have. Then we’ll set a date and time and I’ll follow up with any additional details for the shoot.

On the day of the shoot, we’ll spend an hour together having fun and making art!

Afterwards, I’ll unleash my arsenal of tools for making your one-of-a-kind images—like film soup and adding washes of color and light leaks.

Then it’s on to development, scanning and editing, which I do myself at home.

And after 6 weeks, I will deliver a gallery of digital image files for you to view, download and share your photos.

Final images will be delivered 6 weeks from day of shoot, to allow for processing, developing, scanning & editing time. Images may possibly be delivered sooner, and I’m known to share sneak peeks along the way!

Do you really shoot only on film?

That’s right, this is a film-only session. I mostly use 35mm film, but I also like to add in instant film and my Holga, which uses 120 format film. Depending on your goals & vision, I’ll use 2-3 cameras simultaneously so that I can execute my creative techniques post-shoot. For example, if we’re souping film, I’ll use one camera specifically for film rolls to be souped and another for rolls to be color washed. While I don’t specify a certain number of rolls for a session, I do make sure to shoot more than enough to ensure I can deliver a variety of images to you.

Can you tell me more about film soup?

Film soup is an experimental technique  in which I destroy film negatives by submerging them in liquids and other substances to create color shifts, light leaks and textures like grain and marks on the images. I use souping to visualize a dynamic, colorful and magnetic world beyond what is captured by my lens. It’s by far my favorite way to experiment with film! However, because it is highly experimental, I cannot guarantee what happens to the images, nor can I guarantee a certain number of images from this process. Even though souping is very unpredictable—you never know what you’re going to get each time—I have been souping film for years and have learned quite a few tricks that help increase the odds of getting results.

What if I don’t live in Atlanta?

I love to travel and would love to travel to YOU! If you’re interested in booking me for a session outside of the Atlanta metro area, reach out and let’s chat :)
