A Film Swap with Mia Bloombecker (aka @nationale7)
Mia Bloombecker is a fellow experimental film photographer who is known for her film swaps. So, when she asked me if I wanted to do one, I jumped at the opportunity. A film swap is when one person shoots a roll of film, sends it off to another, who then shoots over the same roll, resulting in a roll of double (or multiple) exposed film. We both did a swap—I shot a roll of Kodak Ultramax 400 here in Atlanta and sent to her, and she shot a roll of Agfa Vista 200 in Santa Cruz, California and sent it to me. I recently finished shooting my exposures on her roll of Agfa Vista 200 and souped it. We both ended up shooting a lot of flowers, spring for her and summer for me. This was the first time I have shot and souped Agfa Vista 200, and the results are really wild, especially in combination with the double exposures. For my soup, I soaked the film in Tropical Punch Kool-Aid and lemon juice for around 24 hours. The results remind me a lot of how Fuji Superia soups, with a lot of dots and a cooler hue to the color shifts. I love how these turned out. And, I’d love to keep doing more film swaps, so if you’re interested in collaborating on one, send me a message and let’s shoot :)
