Every spring in Atlanta, the dogwoods bloom. Every spring, Brooks shoots them. This image is what happened when the film arrived already altered: Electric red and deep magenta flooding the frame, teal and green streaking through like current — colors and textures the chemistry built over six months before the shutter opened. The dogwood remains familiar, but charged.
The film went into the soup before this frame was shot. Household ingredients, six months of drying, the emulsion already altered by the time the film was loaded into the camera. The dogwood you know, seen through film that had already become something else.
All twelve works in the Electric Dogwoods series came from a single roll of expired film stock, discontinued and unrepeatable.Â

- Mallory Brooks
Mallory Brooks is an Atlanta-based fine art photographer who transforms everyday destinations into art through experimental analog processes. Working exclusively with film, she uses techniques like film soup, multiple exposure, and lens distortion to create striking in-camera effects — images born from controlled chaos that cannot be replicated.
